Nationals-Padres in rare rain delay in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- The Washington Nationals game at San Diego is in a rare rain delay.

It is only the fifth rain delay since Petco Park opened in 2004. The last rain delay at Petco was on April 8, 2011, when a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers was suspended and resumed the next day.

It had rained earlier Thursday, but the tarp came off about an hour before first pitch. Rain started falling during the pregame managers' meeting, and crew chief Gerry Davis sent the players off after Tyson Ross struck out leadoff batter Denard Span.
