Archie Bradley pushing for May 16 return from ball striking him in face

MLB, Arizona Diamondbacks

Archie Bradley, recovering from a sinus fracture in the right side of his face, is targeting a May 16 return when the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Bradley has been on the disabled list since he was hit in the face April 28 by a batted ball from Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies.

"Everything has gone well," Bradley told MLB.com. "I've healed up even quicker than I thought I would, so things are going in the right direction. The cuts inside my mouth have healed up. That's where a lot of the pain was. My teeth are starting to come back to normal, and the swelling has gone down."

The right-hander did not suffer damage to his orbital bone or jaw or sustain a concussion from the 115 mph contact. He was able to leave the field and watch the end of that April contest.

While the return seems quick based on the initial images, Bradley was pushing to return as soon as the 15-day DL stint was up.

"Dating back to football, there's many times when I got hit pretty hard stepping into a throw and I got back up and made the same throw on the next play," Bradley said last week. "Granted, this is a little bit different situation."

The 22-year-old is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA this season.
