Jose Bautista won't need trip to disabled list, manager says

MLB, Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Friday that outfielder Jose Bautista won't need to go on the disabled list, despite his missing a third straight game with a sore shoulder.

Gibbons also said Bautista likely will serve as a designated hitter for a game or two before returning to the outfield.

Bautista stressed his right shoulder muscles in making an admitted ill-advised throw to try to get out a runner at first base in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 13-6 win against the Baltimore Orioles.

Bautista missed two games against the Orioles and one against Tampa Bay but said Thursday that he was feeling much better.

"I probably shouldn't have made that throw," Bautista said Wednesday. "I hate to say it, and I think it's weird when hockey does it, but I'm day to day."

Bautista, who is hitting .149 this season, is tied for the team lead with four home runs and is third with 10 RBIs.
