NEW YORK -- Mark Teixeira hit a pair of two-run homers and Michael Pineda pitched impressively into the eighth inning to help the New York Yankees end the crosstown Mets' 11-game winning streak with a 6-1 victory Friday night in the Subway Series opener.

Jacoby Ellsbury also connected off Jacob deGrom (2-2) for a third home run to the short right field in the Bronx as the Yankees ended a four-game home skid to the Mets.

Pineda (3-0) allowed five hits and a run in 7 2-3 innings in his longest outing with the Yankees, who won for the seventh time in eight games. The NL East-leading Mets lost in their first game this season against a team outside the division.

DeGrom gave up eight hits and a career high-tying six runs that more than tripled his ERA to 2.96.

RED SOX 7, ORIOLES 5

BALTIMORE -- Brock Holt hit a tiebreaking three-run homer off Darren O'Day in the eighth inning, and Boston beat Baltimore to extend the Orioles' losing streak to five games.

David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez also connected for the Red Sox, who have won three of five this season against the defending AL East champions. Alexi Ogando (1-0) got the win and Koji Uehara worked the ninth for his third save.

Jimmy Paredes and Chris Davis homered for the last-place Orioles, whose five-game skid is their longest since September 2013. Brian Matusz (0-2) was charged with the loss.

INDIANS 13, TIGERS 1

DETROIT -- Brandon Moss homered twice and drove in seven runs for Cleveland, and Danny Salazar struck out a career-high 11.

Detroit has lost four straight after an 11-2 start.

Moss hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the ninth. Lonnie Chisenhall hit a two-run homer in the eighth. The Indians entered with 11 homers all season, none with runners on base.

Salazar (2-0) gave up one run in seven innings.

Detroit's Shane Greene (3-1) allowed eight runs and nine hits in four-plus innings.

CARDINALS 3, BREWERS 0

MILWAUKEE -- Carlos Martinez struck out eight in seven innings for St. Louis, and Jason Heyward and Jhonny Peralta homered.

Martinez (2-0) gave up four hits and walked two in the longest of his three starts this season. Jordan Walden pitched the eighth and Trevor Rosenthal finished for his seventh save in seven tries, completing a five-hitter.

Heyward belted a solo shot off Matt Garza in the third, lifting St. Louis to a 2-0 lead. Peralta homered leading off the sixth.

Garza (1-3) allowed seven hits in six innings while striking out a season-high six.

Milwaukee has dropped nine of 10. At 3-14, the Brewers have the worst record in the majors.

MARLINS 3, NATIONALS 2

MIAMI -- Martin Prado hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning for Miami, and four pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

The Marlins, starting a nine-game homestand, won their third in a row after a 3-11 start. The Nationals, beginning a 10-game trip, lost their third straight.

With the score 2-all, Adeiny Hechavarria doubled to start the eighth against Tanner Roark (0-2) and advanced on an infield single by Dee Gordon. Prado followed with a single off Aaron Barrett.

Bryan Morris (2-0) pitched around two walks in a scoreless eighth. Steve Cishek followed with a perfect ninth for his first save.

Bryce Harper drove in Washington's runs with a sacrifice fly and a two-out single.

PIRATES 4, DIAMONDBACKS 1

PHOENIX -- Gerrit Cole pitched into the eighth inning, and Josh Harrison and Neil Walker each drove in two runs to lead the Pirates to the road win.

Cole (3-0) allowed one run and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Harrison lined a two-out double to right-center in the second inning, driving in Jordy Mercer and Cole to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter (1-3) lasted six innings, yielding three runs and six hits while striking out three.

Mark Melancon got three outs for his fourth save, helping the Pirates to their third straight victory.

ROCKIES 6, GIANTS 4

DENVER -- Rafael Ynoa snapped a sixth-inning tie with a pinch-hit RBI double for Colorado, and Eddie Butler was backed by stellar defense over six shaky innings.

Charlie Blackmon added a solo homer and DJ LeMahieu drove in two runs as the Rockies beat the defending World Series champions for a fourth straight time this season.

Butler (2-1) labored most of the way with only one clean inning. He allowed four runs, but worked his way out of trouble thanks to some nifty fielding, especially from Nolan Arenado and Blackmon.

San Francisco's Chris Heston (2-2) gave up six runs over 5 1-3 innings in his first appearance at Coors Field, raising his ERA from 0.87 to 2.77.

Adam Ottavino pitched the ninth for his third save.

PHILADELPHIA -- Freddie Freeman mishandled Ben Revere's ground ball to first, allowing Freddy Galvis to score the winning run for Philadelphia in the ninth.

Galvis led off with a single to center against Jim Johnson (1-2). He went to second on Cesar Hernandez's sacrifice and advanced to third on a passed ball.

Revere hit a chopper toward first base and Galvis broke for home. Freeman had a play at the plate but he bobbled the ball. It was one of four errors for the Braves, who have lost four straight and eight of 11.

Ken Giles (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

CUBS 7, REDS 3, 11 INNINGS

CINCINNATI -- Jonathan Herrera singled home the tiebreaking run in the 11th inning, and David Ross followed with a bases-loaded double that sent the Cubs to the victory.

Anthony Rizzo homered, doubled and started Chicago's winning rally with a single off Burke Badenhop (0-1) as the Reds' bullpen failed again. Herrera singled home the go-ahead run, and Ross doubled home two more.

Starting pitcher Travis Wood drove in the final run with a pinch-hit grounder.

Jason Motte (1-0) got Jay Bruce to foul out with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, keeping it tied at 3. Hector Rondon retired the side in order for his fourth save.

Kevin Kiermaier also circled the bases on a four-base error as Tampa Bay earned its third consecutive victory. Jose Dominguez (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first major league win and Matt Andriese pitched the final three innings for his first career save.

The home runs by Loney and Rivera came in a four-run fourth inning off R.A. Dickey (0-2).

Devon Travis and Justin Smoak homered for Toronto.

ROYALS 2, WHITE SOX 2, 8 INN., SUSP

CHICAGO -- One night after a benches-clearing brawl led to five ejections, the Royals and White Sox were tied when their game was suspended by rain heading into the ninth inning.

Managers Robin Ventura of the White Sox and Ned Yost of the Royals huddled with the umpires after the eighth, and then crew chief Tim Welke waved the players off the field.

The game was suspended after a 40-minute delay. It will be resumed on Saturday afternoon with the Royals batting in the top of the ninth. Saturday's originally scheduled game will begin when the suspended contest is over.
