Teams that have -- and haven't -- withstood injury issues

David Richard/USA TODAY Sports

Less than three weeks into the MLB season, there are more than 130 big leaguers on the disabled list, and according to my count, 21 of 30 teams have lost at least one impact player to injury thus far.

This, of course, shouldn't come as a surprise. Injuries are a part of the game, and front offices must diligently account for them during the offseason.

While it's nearly impossible for a team to successfully replace one of its best players -- plugging in Jacob deGrom when you lose Matt Harvey for the season isn't a realistic expectation -- a team's existing minor league depth, waiver-wire pickups, minor league free-agent signings and under-the-radar trade acquisitions can help pick up the slack and prove to be the difference between a competitive ball club and one that falls apart and goes into the tank.

Here's a look at some teams that have been forced to dip into the second and third tiers of their depth chart early on, with insight on how well they've adjusted following the injury losses.
