J.J. Hardy limited to hitting off a tee

Baltimore Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy, who is recovering from a left shoulder strain, has been limited to hitting off a tee during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk.

"It didn't go bad, but it didn't go as well as we would've liked," Hardy told The Virginian-Pilot. "So we're kind of stepping back just a little bit and kind of working back up to it versus continuing going at that pace."

He had been taking live batting practice during his stint with Double-A Bowie.

The 32-year-old Hardy, a two-time All-Star selection, was placed on the DL on April 5. There is no timetable for his return to the Orioles.

In other injury news, catcher Matt Wieters, who is rehabbing following Tommy John surgery, may catch two to three innings on Friday in Sarasota, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.
