Yasiel Puig misses third straight game as Dodgers' concern grows

MLB, Los Angeles Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- Yasiel Puig was out of the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup for the third straight game Friday night due to a tight left hamstring, and the team is increasingly concerned he could end up on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his career.

Puig tested the injury by running in the outfield grass before Friday night's game at Dodger Stadium against the Colorado Rockies, which the Dodgers won 7-3.

"I don't feel like it's that serious. I watched him and it seemed like he ran pretty good, but obviously he's still feeling a little something and that's where the hamstring always is tricky," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said.

Puig appeared to injure himself late in Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners while making a catch in the ninth inning, although neither he nor the team would specify when the injury happened. He had just begun to warm up at the plate after a 2-for-17 start to the season and was playing excellent defense in right field. He picked up three hits Monday and had homered in back-to-back games. He is batting .222.

Mattingly did not use Puig as a pinch hitter Friday because of the danger of aggravating the injury with his first step out of the box.
