Too high, too low on BBTN Top 100

Some big names fell on either the underrated or overrated side of the BBTN Top 100. Getty Images

While analysts, reporters and fans frequently disagree on baseball matters, there are two things these sometimes disparate groups can usually agree to like: making lists and arguing about lists. Sports culture isn't just made up of the events on the field, but those sports arguments you see among the passionate. You've never truly experienced the magic of following sports until you've engaged in a heated, sports-related disagreement with friends, family or the person sitting next to you at the bar who totally said something wrong.

To create our own bit of passionate disagreements, ESPN's wide umbrella of broadcasters and writers assembled the "Baseball Tonight" Top 100, our yearly exercise in which we set off some fun baseball arguments. Even someone as mild-mannered and agreeable as I will surely see a baseball list and be full of grievances that just can't wait to air until this year's Festivus.

Overrated: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers

Even after a season in which Cabrera hit like an amazing mortal rather than an immortal, he remains one of the most feared hitters in baseball, and no pitcher this year will be comfortable with him at the plate. However, given that he did descend a bit to earth in 2014 and the fact that he's going to be 32 next month and has had increasing injury problems, sixth is just too high a rank for me (I ranked him 14th). Hitting is the majority of a position player's job, and Cabrera has mastered that, but the other stuff counts, too, and he just doesn't add much there.
