LEADING OFF: Richards to test knee; Balfour back

A look at the highlights of what's happening all around spring training in Florida and Arizona Monday:

---

BIG STEP

Angels right-hander Garrett Richards is expected to face opponents for the first time since injuring his left knee in August and having surgery. He will pitch in a minor league game. Richards could join Los Angeles' rotation in mid-April.

BALFOUR BACK

Rays right-hander Grant Balfour is scheduled to make his first spring appearance, against Pittsburgh in Port Charlotte. Balfour departed camp for 18 days to return to his native Australia to care for his father, David, who passed away March 11 after a long bout with pancreatic cancer.

READY TO SWING

Astros outfielder Evan Gattis is ready to test his sore wrist in a big league game. He swung a bat for first time in six days on Friday and played in a minor league game Sunday. He is expected to serve as designated hitter against the Braves in Kissimmee, Florida.

HIP TEST

Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn is scheduled to start at Boston in Fort Myers, Florida. Lynn has been slowed by a hip injury and has pitched just one inning this spring.

ANYTHING UP MADDON'S SLEEVE?

The Chicago Cubs have their first day off the spring. Does new manager Joe Maddon have anything special planned for his team? Maddon was known for organizing themed bonding activities for the Tamp Bay Rays, who he managed from 2006-14, including nerd dress-up day and bringing Penguins into the clubhouse.
