Corey Kluber to start Opening Day

MLB, Cleveland Indians

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- In one of the easiest decisions Terry Francona has had to make this spring, the Cleveland Indians' manager confirmed Monday that American League Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber will start on Opening Day.

Kluber went 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA and struck out 269 last season, earning the honor of top pitcher in the AL. He will get the ball April 6 in Houston.

The right-hander joined Bob Feller in 1946 and Luis Tiant in 1968 as the only Indians pitchers to win at least 18 games, have a sub-2.50 ERA and strike out at least 260 batters.

Kluber started once against the Astros last season, on Sept. 16 at Houston, and struck out 14, matching his career high. He allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings to earn the victory.
