Spring cliches gone wrong

MLB

Baseball is always full of fun surprises. Even if you follow every aspect of the game, on and off the field, it's hard to go through a full season without something -- or many "somethings" -- completely unpredictable happening.

Then there are those things that catch us off guard because of a perception that has been created by either an abundance of media coverage (or lack thereof) or just a generally held misbelief.

Here is a list of things to not be surprised about once they actually happen in 2015:

1. Hitters CAN succeed at Petco Park.

Seth Smith, who had an .841 OPS at Petco Park in 2014 (and a .767 OPS on the road), wasn't the first to have success in what is considered to be one of if not the least hitter-friendly ballparks in the majors.

Mike Cameron, Brian Giles and Mark Loretta weren't fazed one bit by the vast outfield dimensions and surrounding "marine layer" that can seemingly turn the San Diego air into a force field. Heck, Will Venable even put up MVP-caliber numbers there in 2013 (.860 OPS, 15 HR in 257 plate appearances).

The two biggest lineup acquisitions of the offseason also have great track records there: Matt Kemp has a career .867 OPS in 234 career plate appearances there, while Justin Upton has a .900 OPS in 192 career plate appearances.

If it's difficult to hit at Petco Park, not everyone is getting the memo.
