Zack Greinke gets elbow injection

MLB, Los Angeles Dodgers

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke had a lubricating injection in his right elbow Thursday and is being held back from throwing bullpen sessions early in camp, but the team says it is part of Greinke's normal spring routine.

Greinke had soreness in his elbow after the All-Star break last season and missed a start in July.

"It's pretty much been common in the spring since we've had him," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He had thrown, like, five bullpens coming in and it's something he planned on doing."

Greinke was asked earlier this week whether his elbow issue from last season was a concern heading into 2015.

"It's come and gone for several years now," Greinke said. "It'll probably be something I have to deal with again this year, but it hasn't been a big issue, obviously. When you get older, you've got to deal with stuff so I would like to think it's not going to be an issue and I don't expect it to be, but it could."

Greinke went 17-8 with a 2.71 ERA and made his second All-Star team last year.
