Trumbo beats D-backs in arbitration, will earn $6.9 million

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Mark Trumbo has won his salary arbitration case against the Arizona Diamondbacks and will get a $6.9 million salary this year instead of the team's $5.3 million offer.

Howard Edelman, Margaret Brogan and Edna Francis made the decision Thursday, a day after listening to arguments.

A 29-year-old outfielder and first baseman, Trumbo hit .235 with 14 homers and 61 RBIs last season, down from 34 homers and 100 RBIs the previous year. He was tied for the NL lead in homers and second in RBIs when he sustained a foot stress fracture less than a month into the season.

Trumbo made $4.8 million last season.

Teams lead players 6-5 with three cases pending. There had not been this many hearings since teams went 8-6 in 2001.
