Red Sox agree with Porcello, Tazawa

MLB, Boston Red Sox

BOSTON -- The Red Sox agreed to a $12.5 million, one-year deal with pitcher Rick Porcello and a $2.25 million contract with reliever Junichi Tazawa as they swapped proposed arbitration figures with pitcher Wade Miley and outfielder Daniel Nava.

Porcello, a 26-year-old right-hander, was acquired from Detroit last month after going 15-13 with a 3.43 ERA last season, when he led the AL with three shutouts. He made $8.5 million.

Tazawa, 28, went 4-3 with a 2.86 ERA in 71 appearances last season, his fifth with the Red Sox. He earned $1,275,000.

Miley is asking for a raise from $523,500 to $4.3 million, and the team offered $3.4 million. Nava, like Miley in arbitration for the first time, requested a hike from $556,500 to $2.25 million. Boston submitted $1.3 million.

If a case doesn't settle, it would go to a hearing next month before a three-person panel.
