Ryan Braun: Thumb is 100 percent

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun said his right thumb is 100 percent for the first time in two years.

Braun, speaking Wednesday at a Thanksgiving food drive at Miller Park, had a procedure Oct. 2 to treat a nerve.

"Right now, I don't feel any [discomfort], and I haven't been able to say that for two years," Braun said. "I think I've told you guys, it [bothered me] shaking hands, writing -- you know, just everyday activities. Now I don't feel it at all, so I'm excited."

Braun said he's been cleared for offseason activities, and even swung a bat 10 days after the surgery. But he remains cautious.

"I'm encouraged by how it feels, but at the same time, I think I have to be cautiously optimistic [until] I get into spring training and see how it responds," Braun said. "But it hasn't felt this good in a really long time."

Braun, 31, is coming off a season in which he hit .266 with 19 home runs and 81 RBIs. Braun never batted below .285 in any of his previous seven seasons with the Brewers.
