Rangers call up infielder after 13 years in minors

MLB, Texas Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of Guilder Rodriguez, an infielder looking to make his major league debut after 1,095 minor league games.

Rodriguez got the call Sunday, a day after Double-A Frisco was knocked out of the Texas league playoffs.

The 31-year-old infielder has been in the minor leagues over 13 seasons, and his 1,095 games in the minors are the most of any current player with no big-league experience.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Texas transferred right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. The Rangers said Saturday that Darvish won't pitch again this season because of right elbow inflammation.

Texas already has set a major league record this season by using 63 players, four more than the previous mark.
