Twins' Santana leaves game with back injury

MLB, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota center fielder Danny Santana left Saturday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels because of a strained left lower back.

Santana was hurt in the second inning when he tried to throw out David Freese at home plate on C.J. Cron's run-scoring single that put the Angels ahead 2-0. Chris Parmelee replaced Santana's place.

Santana is hitting .320 -- second among AL rookies -- and took a seven-game hitting streak into the game.

In other Twins injury news, All-Star closer Glen Perkins is day to day with neck soreness that started bothering him Thursday night. An MRI Saturday revealed no structural damage or pinched nerves.

Outfielder Jordan Schafer was out of the starting lineup a night after bruising ribs during a crash into the outfield wall. Assistant general manager Rob Antony said Schafer was available to pinch run.
