Alexi Ogando shut down for 3 weeks

MLB, Texas Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers reliever Alexi Ogando has been shut down for a minimum of three weeks after an MRI of his right elbow showed some acute inflammation. The club termed it as "wear and tear" and said Ogando is not expected to need surgery.

The 30-year-old was relieved that the scans didn't show anything more serious.

"I'm happy because what they told me was not the worst news," Ogando said through an interpreter.

Ogando was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday and was evaluated by doctors that same day. The Rangers will re-evaluate him in about three weeks and determine the next course of action.

Ogando had a 6.84 ERA with 15 walks in 25 innings. It was after a rough outing on Tuesday that Ogando mentioned to the club that his elbow was bothering him.
