With Hanigan hurting, Rays promote Solis

TORONTO -- The Tampa Bay Rays have selected catcher Ali Solis from Triple-A Durham, giving them an extra option behind the plate as starter Ryan Hanigan deals with a sore right hamstring.

Solis replaces right-hander Alex Colome, who was optioned back to Triple-A after pitching four innings against the Blue Jays on Monday.

Hanigan, who is hitless in his past 23 at-bats, left Monday's game in the sixth inning and was replaced by pinch-hitter Jose Molina, who started for the Rays on Tuesday.

Hanigan, who is batting .212 with three home runs and 22 RBIs, has missed three games since May 17 and did not start Saturday or Sunday against Boston.

Solis, who was batting .186 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 29 games at Durham, appeared in five games with San Diego in 2012.

To make room for Solis on the 40-man roster, the Rays moved right-hander Matt Moore (elbow) to the 60-day disabled list.
