Adam Jones, Evan Meek have flu

MLB, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays

Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones and reliever Evan Meek were the latest players to be sent home with flu-like symptoms.

"From what I understand, it's going on all over," Orioles manager Buck Showalter told The Baltimore Sun. "It's not just in our locker room. Unfortunately, a lot of it is unavoidable other than don't touch or communicate with people all day. That's pretty hard to do in this sport. I'd like to say I haven't seen it before, but I have. I just hope it runs its course."

The Sun reported that neither player would have been available for Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, which was postponed due to weather. Jones was in the starting lineup Wednesday for the Orioles.

Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz and hitting coach Jim Presley have also fallen ill in the past week. Players were covering their faces with their shirts in the Orioles clubhouse Tuesday, the Sun reported.

Jones, a three-time All-Star, is off to a slow start this season, hitting .240 with one home run and five RBIs in 13 games entering Wednesday. Meek has yet to give up a run in seven innings this season.
