Yanks trade Eduardo Nunez to Twins

MLB, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins

NEW YORK -- Eduardo Nunez was once the key piece held out of a potential trade for Cliff Lee.

On Monday, the New York Yankees traded Nunez for another lefty -- Miguel Sulbaran, a 20-year-old Class A pitcher.

Sulbaran is now in his third organization, having pitched in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins systems.

In 2013, he was 9-4 with a 2.96 ERA in 112 2/3 innings with Class A Great Lakes and Class A Cedar Rapids. He struck out 101 and walked 32.

Nunez lost a spring training battle with early-season sensation Yangervis Solarte for the final roster spot. In 2010, the Yankees could have included Nunez in a deal that would have landed Lee, but wanted to hold on to him thinking he could be a starting shortstop one day.
