White Sox add RP Mitchell Boggs

The Chicago White Sox and reliever Mitchell Boggs agreed on a one-year, $1.1 million contract on Friday.

Boggs, 29, thrived in 2012 with the St. Louis Cardinals as the setup man for Jason Motte, posting a 2.21 ERA with 34 holds in 78 appearances. When Motte was lost for the 2013 season with an elbow injury, Boggs was give a shot to close and struggled, blowing three saves. He had an 11.05 ERA in 18 games and was traded to the Colorado Rockies on July 9.

To make room for Boggs, the White Sox sent left-handed pitcher Deunte Heath to Triple-A Charlotte. He will attend spring training as a non-roster invitee.
