TEXTexas Rangers
2015 Record: 51-53
#35 Cole Hamels
Aug 1: Hamels (6-7) allowed five runs on eight hits over 7.2 innings in Saturday's no-decision against the Giants. He issued just one walk and struck out six in his Rangers debut. Hamels left the game in line for the win with a 7-4 lead, but reliever Tanner Scheppers had other ideas. In an appearance that rivaled any abomination Hamels had witnessed on the last-place Phillies, Scheppers promptly allowed Hamels' inherited runner to score before surrendering two more runs without recording an out, thus sabotaging the ace's Rangers debut in one fell swoop. On the bright side, the Rangers offense showed that they can put Hamels in a position to win even when he doesn't have his best stuff, so owners can definitely expect an improvement in his win/loss record moving forward. Hamels draws the Mariners in the pitcher-friendly Safeco Field in his next start Friday, so keeping the scoring down should be easier than it was in this outing at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
