PITPittsburgh Pirates
2014 Record: 88-74
#23 Travis Snider
Jan 16: Snider agreed to a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Pirates on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Gregory Polanco's struggles afforded Snider a chance at regular playing time late in the year and into the postseason, and the former first-round pick (14th overall in 2006) answered the call with a .880 OPS in the second half. Despite the strong showing from Snider, Pirates GM Neal Huntington said in December that right field is "probably Polanco's job to keep," meaning Snider will likely open the year in a reserve role.
