You can't tell Yankee fans that they're not going to get any big name player in baseball. They think it is their birthright to have a current all star at every position and a former one backing them all up. I guess they don't remember 2 years ago when Cliff Lee turned them and more money down to go pitch in a place that he likes. Who's to say King Felix doesn't do the same?
>
Kychest1
CC Sabathia was the last big name pitcher to go to the yanks. That was 4 years ago. The M's said they won't trade Felix & he says he doesn't want to go anywhere. I'd say the odds are really stacked against the yanks.

Mariners ownership will pay whatever he wants.. they will not want to deal with the fan backlash and PR nightmare.. he is the most respected and probably only star in seattle sports right now. Marshawn "the beast" a Lynch a very distant 2nd.

Couldn't happen to better guy. Felix deserves this without a doubt. Few men in baseball are as loyal as this man is. This being said I cant blame him if he took the massive offer that will come his way. Iif he ever became a free agent & the team stays in the cellar for the next few years

Def one of the best pitchers in the majors and was about time he threw a perfect game... He's also got one of the nastiest sliders/curve I've ever seen. Hopefully he leaves Seattle so he could have a chance to win the world series with a good team

I heard it on KJR the local station in Seattle. Don Larsen has the perfect game and grand slam but no Cy Young. Plus playing in the AL he doesn't hit a lot so even more impressive. Very cool stat.

Good point.. just a couple guys that can hit over .300 would be huge! You know you're in trouble when you're best hitter is Jaso the backup catcher! Good story though.. Jaso probably played himself into a nice little contract over the next few years. if not with us then someone else.

That's the most frustrating part. Mariners had the best pitching staff in all of baseball in July and achieved Mariners club record but they simply don't have an offense at all. This time can do big things with a big bat or two.. Ichiro pay coming off the books next year and Figgins $9 mill next year will allow them to go after them, but probably need to bring in the fences to help get big bats in. What slugger will sign knowing their numbers will plummet?
>
bigbin324
don't necessarily need a slugger, just guys that can hit for average and drive in the 5 runs a game necessary to win. Its not going to be easy to convincea slugger to come to a pitcher friendly park, but you don't really need a 35 HR guy to win
274 Days ago
>
bigbin324
They're still bad. I'm an M's fan and will always hope for better, but until they hit consistently all of their pitchers will be under appreciated. The simple fact that they're only 9 games under .500 with another HISTORICALLY bad offense says a lot

The soccer game was historic, but not exactly a classic. The US fielded a patchwork squad but they hung in there and scratched out a win against a better opponent, a $@%!$@ ref notwithstanding. As a soccer fan, I'm slightly embarrassed, but we'll take it. The goal was a beauty. Will quiet the Shea and Fiscal trolls for a while.

I wouldn't go that far. Even if soccer was going to get extremely popular in this country it would still have too many other sports to compete against to make American's dominant. Very few countries have football to deal with when it comes to getting the best athletes to play.
>
Watjalukinat
btw, if we decided that soccer was important, we would dominate it too. Best a soccer player could do is kicker for our football teams, i.e. the wimpiest position. Though Janikowski could rough you up.

>
bigbin324
I'm actually excited that the US finally beat Mexico down there, especially at Azteca. Its possible to enjoy more that one sport. I've actually woken up at 730 on weekends to watch Premier League games, but I know that not everyone is going to agree with me that it is a great sport to watch at a world class level. I can't agree with you thinking a perfect game is nothing though.
>
Watjalukinat
Go play your simpleton eurogames. We won't bother you as you run around a field for two hours. Let me try to simplify for you. What the Mariners did, was the equivalent to one of your "football" teams not letting the other team even TOUCH the ball. Now, go back to your tie games.
>
monarchist
That's a stupid analogy. The Rays touched the ball plenty, hit it pretty hard a few times. The soccer equivalent would probably be zero shots, on goal or not, but all that takes is a really bad opponent. Soccer is not a "eurogame". It is beyond any shadow of a doubt the world's most popular sport. Baseball isn't even close, mainly because most of it consists of juiced millionaires spitting and scratching themselves whilst waiting for something to happen. Not that I don't like the game, but watching it for the typical 3-4 hours straight is pretty much impossible.

"In DC the attendance for Barcelona vs. Manchester United in an EXHIBITION was 82,000. The average attendance for a Redskins game that MATTERS is 77,000." Actually, great point! No sarcasm. However, Spain and London are an hour and a half apart. If I want to fly to New York or Miami, it's a 6 hour flight.
>
Chipper Jones HoF 2018
The NFL gets over 80,000 once a year in Wembley. Plus, Barca v. Man Utd is an exhibition of the world's two best clubs at the moment. The fan base to draw from for that exhibition is literally the whole East Coast or more. Silly to compare the two.

marinersblue96
Football is 100 x's more popular that soccer in the US. You can fill up a stadium anywhere when you have two of the best teams in the world. Hell the Sounders average attendance is better that 80% of the teams in the EPL, but 30k less than the Seahawks.

darksideofthewalrus Or Randy Johnson, or A-Rod (the first time at least when he came back for the All-Star game) I don't boo any former Mariners. ______ A-rod wasn't traded, the mariners actually traded griffey to build around a-rod then he left for the money and randy johnson kinda just quit on the mariners, much different

Randy wasn't booed because most Ms fans understood why he was traded. A-Rod was booed, had monopoly money thrown at him from upper deck. Griffey will always be cheered in Seattle.

What's the cause for celebration? Be happy that you won the game, sure. But all that jubilation for a team that's in LAST PLACE? Just shows that baseball isn't really a team game and is about individual accomplishments.

Chipper Jones HoF 2018
A. A perfect game is a team accomplishment. Ask any pitcher who has thrown one. B. People make a huge deal about 4 HRs. C. Why do you insist on trolling American sports boards when you clearly don't understand them?

Yeah, and why do people get more excited about that then when a player hits 4 HRs, which has happened less? But still, it shows it's not a team game if they find significance in this amid losing.
