Akerfelds was the 1st round pick of the Mariners, number 7 overall in the 1983 draft. I played with him at Mesa in 83 and was fortunate to room with him on several road trips that spring. Ak was a great competitor, never made excuses, and was one tough dude. Rest in peace old friend. 353 Days ago

Godspeed Ak. What an inspiration to a lot of young pitchers for so many years.

It's definitely a sad reality in life that cancer often kills positive and worthwhile people like Ak, and yet the scumbags who deserve it like dnrobinson1986 are still with us. 358 Days ago

padres fans didn't get to see ak often, but we saw his impact through his bullpen, which has always been our one bright spot
his fingerprints are everywhere: miami (bell), texas (adams), anaheim (frieri)
and the way the pads won today was just so great and fitting, in a shutout
thanks for everything 359 Days ago
