His fastball was much straighter before the break and surgery. Big heat, but easier to hit when he made a mistake in the middle of the plate. He's learned to make it dance since deciding to return. His ability to locate pitches has always been top drawer. I wish him well.

Back in his prime he was one guy you certainly didn't want to see your team go up against. He was one of the best for quite a while. I'll always respect Bartolo. It's a shame that his health has become an issue for him the past several years. I hope he recovers from his latest injury quickly and gets many more starts on the mound before walking away.

colon's story and comeback is a great one, but let's not get too excited here. he was tremendous for the yanks until about mid-July and then fell apart. this season he's been slightly below average ERA-wise for the As, but has made up for it by pitching a good # of innings and he's not getting paid much. he's a good guy to be your team's 4 or 5 if you expect/pay him for about 100 quality innings/14-16 starts and you have a kid in AAA who isn't ready to make the team in spring training, but who you expect to be ready come late july/august. if he keeps his health he should be able to sign a few more $1-$2 million contracts if teams follow that logic, though with his body NL teams would probably be scared of him hitting and having to run.
