KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- European captain Jose Maria Olazabal says Padraig Harrington will have to show some "extraordinary" play to avoid missing the Ryder Cup for the first time since 1995.

Harrington is well outside the top 10 players who automatically qualify for Europe's team in three weeks. The PGA Championship offers the most world ranking points, and the Irishman would have to finish alone in second to have any chance of moving into the top 10.

Olazabal says of the three-time major champion: "It's going to be up to him."

This is the final event for Americans to qualify. The U.S. team looks so strong that Hunter Mahan has won twice this year and still is not among the automatic eight who will be appointed to the squad Sunday.
