Deutsche Bank Championship experts' picks

Jordan Spieth missed the cut and lost his No. 1 ranking all in the last week. Will that fuel his fire enough for him to win at TPC Boston? Chris Condon/PGA Tour

The Fed Ex Cup playoffs are well underway as the PGA Tour turns to the Deutsche Bank Championship. Look for low scores at TPC Boston as the best golfers in the world try to improve their position in the second of four playoff tournaments with $67 million on the line. Our experts weigh in.

Matt Barrie, SportsCenter anchor

Robert Streb: It's the time of year when names are getting thin in our survivor format. This is when you have to really search to find someone you haven't used that has a shot. That's why I'm landing on Robert Streb. Streb struggled over the weekend, but has still compiled a nice stretch with top 20s in his five previous starts. That, and he found himself in the top 10 at this event last year in his first start. At this point, collecting top-10 money is really good.

Michael Collins, ESPN.com senior golf analyst

Brooks Koepka: Nothing fuels a young player more that a missed cut. Now make that MC a playoff event and you can ramp the intensity level up about four notches. This week Brooks gets a chance to show off some of that power off the tee he possesses on a course that can handle it. The last (and first time this year) time he missed a cut was at the Players and he followed that with a T-16 at Byron Nelson. I think this week following the MC, a top 5 finish is not out of the question.

Bob Harig, ESPN.com senior golf writer

Jordan Spieth: It has taken me to this point in the season to finally choose Spieth, with some second-guessing along the way. I didn't take him at the U.S. Open or The Open, nor the PGA -- all places where he obviously shined. Last week was a possibility, but the idea of a letdown seemed inevitable, and sure enough, Spieth missed his first cut since May. But nobody has bounced back better than this guy, and you know he's burning to get back after it at TPC Boston in the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Spieth lost his No. 1 spot in the world ranking back to Rory McIlroy, as well as his No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs to Jason Day, which should provide some pretty good motivation. And he shot a final-round 62 at the course two years ago to tie for fourth.

Kevin Maguire, ESPN.com senior golf editor

Jimmy Walker: All five of Walker's PGA Tour wins have come since 2013, so we're going to throw out his track record at this week's venue -- TPC Boston -- prior to then as well. That just leaves us with his T-9 finish in 2014 and that's good enough to take the 14th-ranked player in the world for a Labor Day weekend pick.

Jason Sobel, ESPN.com senior golf writer

Brendan Steele: Prior to last week's missed cut at the Barclays, Steele was trending in the right direction, including a 12th-place finish at the PGA Championship three weeks ago. Steele owns a strong past history on the TPC-Boston host course and if he doesn't have a secret weapon in the bag this week, then he might have one on the bag. This will be his fifth tournament employing Christian Donald (brother of -- and former caddie for -- Luke) and the two have already formed a strong bond. Expect it to keep progressing this week.

John Ziomek, SportsCenter coordinating producer

Henrik Stenson: Stenson has yet to win this season on the PGA Tour, which has to be a bit of a disappointment for the Swede. He does have three second-place finishes at the Hero World Challenge, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and this past week at the Barclays. Five top-10s in 13 starts on the PGA Tour season is pretty solid, but when you lead the tour in total driving and greens in regulation, that usually leads to at least one win. Stenson won at TPC Norton in 2013, on his way to the Fed-Ex Cup title. I expect him to play well again this week and finally get that first win of the season.

Earlier this year, Chris Morfas commented on the Valspar Championship picks article and noted that accountability is rare these days. So in an effort at transparency, we will be updating the list below with each week's picks. Good idea, Chris.
