UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- Chambers Bay is a tough walk for players, caddies, officials and spectators, given the layout's hilly terrain.
And a couple of caddies found that out the hard way Wednesday on the eve of the U.S. Open.
Damian Moore, who caddies for Stephen Gallacher, injured his ankle when he fell and needed to be helped off the course with a stretcher.
Gareth Lord, who caddies for Henrik Stenson, slipped and injured his left wrist.
The full extent of their injuries and status was unknown Wednesday night.
The course is dry and burned out, with the grass a yellowish brown color and wispy off the fairways.
It can be slippery, especially on the hilly areas. Caddies, unlike players, are not allowed to wear soft spikes.
Several spectators were injured when Chambers Bay was the site for the 2010 U.S. Amateur.
The USGA sought to limit spectator exposure by erecting more grandstands and limiting areas where spectators can walk.
