HOYLAKE, England -- Two years ago, Ben Crane was on the alternate list for the Open at Royal Lytham and decided not to make the journey to England. As it turned out, his number was called and he would have gotten into the field. Faced with the same decision this year, Crane opted to make the journey. His route of travel on Wednesday took him from Portland to Seattle to New York and then to London. He then made the drive to Hoylake and was at the course early Thursday morning, waiting. And it could be a long wait. The span of tee times runs nearly 10 hours, and Crane will wait to see whether somebody withdraws.
