Play under way, but fans out
Associated Press

BETHESDA, Md. -- Tiger Woods stepped out of the clubhouse at Congressional and into a strange new world of quiet Saturday. No one called out his name. No one pushed against the ropes and held out a ...

As if to solidify the point about the galleries, today's coverage has been filled with not only the usual banal drunken screams of "Get in the hole" but some "enterprising" fans have been trying to choreograph their shouts so 2 or 3 of the idiots are saying the same thing. Unfortunately, since some of them seem to be saying "Get in the hole" and others are shouting "Mashed potato" and the rest are shouting whatever it is they think is original, all you hear is a bunch of beer-soaked noise. How clever.

I wonder what happened to 'ALL' of those golf fans. Did the ESPN moderators suspend everyone in sight. Highly doubtful. I am suspecting these golf blogs were never very hot for fans. Just a few trolls.

With the early end on CBS, is anyone broadcasting now?

It has been a JOY to watch golf without "GET IN THE HOLE!" "MASHED POTATO" and all the other drunken idiotic "look at me" garbage that usually accompanies live golf. No cell phones, no "Go Tiger!" from 1,518 people at each hole, no golfers backing off for lame losers with mobile cameras or people yelling out their beer requests. This is GREAT!

I think they should also eliminate the tv cameras and journalist since I am sure they can also be a distraction....then we would have the perfect tourney.

That tourney is a whole different animal. Were you around 16th hole?

I went to the WM Open in Scottsdale this year and I knew it would be rowdy, but you can't appreciate the level unless you're there. I'll never go there again. Sheer alcoholic madness. Literally shoulder to shoulder everywhere and just insane.

Then proceed and enjoy the rest of the tourney....and eliminate those horrible memories on the tee box!....we all have them.

11madness said: "I think they should also eliminate the tv cameras and journalist since I am sure they can also be a distraction....then we would have the perfect tourney." Never angry while posting. In fact, I'm rarely angry except when I top my drive 30 yards off the first tee. No, I never said nor implied that there shouldn't be galleries, nor journalists, nor coverage. I was simply celebrating watching live golf virtually idiot free.

No I am simply suggesting that crowds by their very nature are going to create a certain level of disruption...noise, movement etc. It comes with the territory when 40,000 people are watching a tourney. When I have been to tournaments I have not witness the loud drunken scene that you describe. I have no idea why you seem to be so angry.

So you pine for the drunks, ignorant lame shouts and screams from disinterested galleries and multiple camera and cell phone distractions? Yes, you did indeed duck out of the way of the point. Try re-reading the first post and please try to get it this time.

Does anyone know if CBS is limited on where all they can film today. Seems like they aren't showing anyone outside of the last group and Tiger, and almost every player is currently on the course?

I don't think they have everything set up. I know they mentioned they don't have the shotlink up, and it doesn't sound like they have the mics at each tee to catch the sound of the shots.

Tiger holes out to get to one shot off the lead and there's only a small applause.

There are some people out there, is that members only? This is pretty surreal to see on tv.

Yes, thousands of people walking around trees is different than a couple guys on each hole. Is that hard to understand?

I'm sure the players really miss the geniuses who yell "in the hole" even when they tee off from par 5's.
