Inside Urban Meyer's Office - View 1

Just by chance, Meyer happened to open an anonymous letter when he started his coaching career at Bowling Green.

No return address. No signature. No idea who was reaching out to the first-year coach.

Meyer normally wouldn't have opened something like that, but he did -- and the message about ignoring critics was soon framed and has been on his desk ever since.

"That's pretty interesting, and it was all random that I happened to open it," Meyer said. "I still catch myself looking at that."

But above that, there's a new addition to Meyer's desk, and the coach knows exactly who sent it.

The mother of Ohio State fullback-turned-linebacker Zach Boren, a captain for Meyer during the perfect 2012 season, sent it after the player and coach overcame a somewhat rocky start to their relationship and developed a close bond.

The gratitude for the work he did in helping educate Boren struck a chord with Meyer, and he still refers to that letter if he needs a reminder why he got back into coaching.

"It catches your heart a little bit," Meyer said.
