The Latest: Federer and Murray through to quarterfinals

LONDON -- The Latest from Wimbledon (all times local):

---

9:25 p.m.

Roger Federer and Andy Murray both made it through to the quarterfinals, and another win for each will set up a semifinal match between the two former champions.

The defending champion, Novak Djokovic, hasn't made it -- yet. The top-seeded Serb will have to finish his fourth-round match against Kevin Anderson on Tuesday after play was suspended Monday because of darkness at two sets apiece.

Here's the list of the men's quarterfinal matches scheduled for Wednesday:

No. 1 Novak Djokovic or No. 14 Kevin Anderson vs. No. 9 Marin Cilic

No. 2 Roger Federer vs. No. 12 Gilles Simon

No. 3 Andy Murray vs. Vasek Pospisil

No. 4 Stan Wawrinka vs. No. 21 Richard Gasquet

---

9:10 p.m.

Nick Kyrgios got into a couple of contentious exchanges with reporters after losing in the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The 26th-seeded Australian was eliminated by Richard Gasquet on Monday, and was asked whether he tried his hardest during the second set.

Kyrgios hit a half-hearted return on one serve and walked away as another went past him. He denied that he didn't give his all.

There were some light moments, however. In the third set, Kyrgios hugged a ball boy, and later explained that he did it because he "just felt like a hug, I guess. Everyone now and then wants a hug."

He was then asked if the ball boy wanted the hug.

"I thought he embraced me a bit," the 20-year-old Kyrgios said.

9:05 p.m.

Novak Djokovic will have to wait until Tuesday to see if he can reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

The defending champion's fourth-round match against Kevin Anderson on Monday was suspended because of darkness after the fourth set.

Anderson won the first two sets, but Djokovic took the third and fourth to make the score 6-7 (6), 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4.

---

9:01 p.m.

Novak Djokovic is going to a fifth set.

The defending Wimbledon champion lost the first two sets Monday but has won the last two to force a decider against Kevin Anderson in the fourth round.

Djokovic and Anderson are tied 6-7 (6), 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4.

---

8:22 p.m.

Novak Djokovic is making a comeback.

The top-ranked Serb lost the opening two sets of his fourth-round match against Kevin Anderson at Wimbledon, but won the third.

Djokovic now trails Anderson 6-7 (6), 6-7 (6), 6-1.

8 p.m.

Novak Djokovic has lost another set at Wimbledon.

The top-ranked Serb lost the opening two sets of his fourth-round match against Kevin Anderson 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) Monday on Court 1.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is back in the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

Federer beat 20th-seeded Roberta Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 Monday on Centre Court, putting him in the quarterfinals at the grass-court major for the 13th time.

Federer, who lost in last year's final to Novak Djokovic, needs one more Wimbledon title to break the record he holds with Pete Sampras and 1880s player Willie Renshaw.

---

7:00 p.m.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic has dropped a set for the first time at this year's Wimbledon.

Kevin Anderson won the first set of their fourth-round match 7-6 (6) Monday on Court 1 after Djokovic double-faulted at 6-6 of the tiebreaker. The 14th-seeded South African closed out the set with an ace.

6:50 p.m.

Gilles Simon will be playing in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time.

The 12th-seeded Frenchman beat 2010 Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 Monday in the fourth round.

Simon has only once before reached the quarterfinals at a major tournament, getting that far at the 2009 Australian Open. And Wimbledon had been the 30-year-old Simon's worst Grand Slam. He only got as far as the fourth round once before, also in 2009.

---

6:40 p.m.

U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic made his way into the Wimbledon quarterfinals by beating Denis Kudla of the United States on Monday.

Cilic won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Court 3 to reach the quarterfinals at the All England Club for the second straight year.

In the next round, Cilic will face either Novak Djokovic or Kevin Anderson.

---

6:05 p.m.

Caroline Wozniacki didn't have much to say about former fiance Rory McIlroy injuring his ankle the week before the British Open.

After losing in the fourth round at Wimbledon on Monday, the Dane was asked if she had any message for McIlroy, who tore an ankle ligament playing soccer with friends. McIlroy ended their relationship last year.

The moderator then quickly broke in, saying: "We'll stick to tennis questions."

And with that, the news conference was over.

---

5:46 p.m.

Andy Murray has made it to the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the eighth straight year.

The 2013 champion at the All England Club advanced Monday by beating Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-6 (7), 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 on Centre Court.

Murray became the first British man to the win the Wimbledon title since Fred Perry in 1936 when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final two years ago. He also won the U.S. Open title in 2012, but lost to Djokovic in this year's Australian Open final.

In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Murray will face unseeded Vasek Pospisil of Canada.

French Open champion Stan Wawrinka is still going strong at Wimbledon.

The fourth-seeded Swiss player advanced to the quarterfinals Monday by beating David Goffin of Belgium 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7), 6-4 on Court 1.

The 15th-seeded Swiss player rallied to beat Monica Niculescu of Romania 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 Monday in the fourth round.

Both Serena and Venus are five-time champions at the All England Club, but Serena is on track for a true Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and French Open this year.

With Madison Keys and CoCo Vandeweghe also winning Monday, it's the first time three American women have reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Serena, Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati did it in 2004.

---

1:55 p.m.

Richard Gasquet wasn't happy about wasting two match points against Nick Kyrgios, smashing his racket in anger after dropping the third set of their fourth-round match.

Gasquet was up 6-4 in the tiebreaker but the Australian saved both match points before converting his fourth set point to take the match to a fourth. The Frenchman then slammed his racket into the ground and once more against his chair, breaking the frame.

Gasquet leads 7-5, 6-1, 6-7 (7) on Court 2.

---

1:45 p.m.

Serena Williams has won the first set against older sister Venus.

The American sisters are playing in the fourth round at Wimbledon, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals. Serena took the first set 6-4 on Monday on Centre Court.

Wimbledon will hold a minute of silence at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the London bombings.

On July 7, 2005, several suicide bombings killed 52 people on the London transport network.

It will be the second minute of silence at this year's tournament. Last week, the club fell silent to remember the victims of the Tunisia attack, which killed 38 people, including 30 British tourists.

---

12:25 p.m.

It's a good day to bring the golf clubs as well as tennis rackets to Wimbledon.

A number of top European golfers are due in the Royal Box on Monday. The lineup includes Miguel Angel Jimenez, Paul McGinley, Ian Poulter, Sam Torrance, Jamie Donaldson, Stephen Gallacher and Lee Westwood.

The list does not include Rory McIlroy, who ruptured a ligament in his left ankle while playing soccer, a week before the start of his British Open title defense.
