ITF suspends 2 for match-fixing

Tennis

LONDON -- Two lower-ranked tennis players have been suspended and fined for violating the sport's match-fixing rules.

The International Tennis Federation's anti-corruption unit said Wednesday that 30-year-old Italian player Walter Trusendi and 25-year-old Frenchman Elie Rousset were sanctioned for their activity at an unidentified tournament in 2014.

It said both admitted violating the rule that states that no player should "directly or indirectly, contrive or attempt to contrive the outcome or any other aspect of any event."

No details were given.

Trusendi was suspended six months and fined $5,000. Rousset was suspended six months, with three months suspended subject to good behavior, and also fined $5,000.

Trusendi is currently ranked No. 425, while Rousset is No. 576.
