Japan leads after doubles win

Tennis

TOKYO -- Kei Nishikori and Yasutaka Uchiyama beat Frank Dancevic and Daniel Nestor of Canada 6-3, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 on Saturday to give Japan a 2-1 lead in their Davis Cup world group clash.

Nishikori, Japan's top-ranked player, was not initially scheduled to play the doubles match but was called on after Canada won the second singles match Friday to move level at one game apiece.

Nishikori will face Dancevic in Sunday's first reverse singles match, followed by Go Soeda against Peter Polansky.

The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face either the Czech Republic or the Netherlands.
