SYDNEY -- San Antonio Spurs point guard Patty Mills will lead the Australian men's basketball team at the Olympics in the absence of the injured Andrew Bogut, while Lauren Jackson and the women's team will be hunting for an elusive gold at London.

The Australian Olympic Committee said the men's team announced Friday brings together one of its strongest Olympic contingents.

The notable omission is Golden State Warriors center Bogut, who is recovering from an ankle injury that will keep him off the court at least until mid-August.

Australia's women are led by four-time WNBA Most Valuable Player Jackson, but will be without star guard and three-time WNBA All-Star Penny Taylor, who is sidelined with a left knee injury.

The Aussie women have lost in the final to the United States at the past three Olympics.
