Pharoah works at Santa Anita

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah logged his final summer workout at Santa Anita Park July 12 before he'll relocate to trainer Bob Baffert's barn at Del Mar.

The Pioneerof the Nile colt owned by Zayat Stables breezed five furlongs in :59 1/5 seconds according to Santa Anita clockers and Baffert timed his gallop out to six furlongs in 1:12 2/5.

American Pharoah and jockey Martin Garcia found company in the backstretch during the drill and sat behind two other horses working together, moved past one on the outside exiting the turn, and accelerated to the wire.

"It was a nice breeze," Baffert said. "He caught some company, sat behind them, and went well. It was good, because he sat off those workers well. He just wants to be in the bridle. As long as he's in the bridle, he's good."

American Pharoah will make the 110-mile trip south to Del Mar July 14, but Baffert would not indicate his future workout plans for the colt Sunday, specifically if he would breeze over Del Mar's new dirt track or when he'll ship to Monmouth Park for his next start, the $1 million Haskell Invitational Aug. 2.

"All I can tell you is he's going to the Haskell," Baffert said.

Since his victory in the June 6 Belmont Stakes, American Pharoah has recorded three timed workouts at Santa Anita, including a three-furlong breeze in :36 2/5 seconds June 29 and a four-furlong drill in :47 3/5 seconds July 6.
