Shared Belief works well for Classic

Shared Belief, in his longest workout leading up to the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, drilled six furlongs in 1:14 2/5 handily on Golden Gate Fields' Tapeta racing surface Tuesday.

Shared Belief will be the favorite in the Classic, the main event of the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita. A 1 1/4-mile test for three-year-olds and up, the Classic is run on November 1.

With jockey Russell Baze up for Tuesday's work, Shared Belief recorded splits of :13, :25 2/5, :37 1/5, :49 3/5, and 1:02 3/5. Shared Belief galloped out seven furlongs in 1:27 2/5.

"The track is always dead on Tuesdays, so that's a good time," said Sherrie Wolfe, head clocker at Golden Gate Fields.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer had Shared Belief work in company with two other horses from his barn, Prodicious Facts and Hard to Please. Shared Belief spotted Prodicious Facts and Hard to Please a four-length head start, rallied inside of Prodicious Facts coming into the stretch and pulled away from his stablemates down the stretch.

"It was a great work," Hollendorfer said. "We had him come up the rail today and we're very pleased with how everything went."

Hollendorfer said Shared Belief will have his final work for the Classic next Tuesday at Golden Gate Fields and then ship to Santa Anita.

"He'll work a half-mile," Hollendorfer said.

Undefeated in seven starts, Shared Belief is a three-year-old gelded son of Candy Ride who has five stakes victories -- three of the Grade 1 variety -- and $1,552,200 in earnings. He was the champion two-year-old male last season.
