Shared Belief made the favorite

Horse Racing

Shared Belief has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite in the TVG Pacific Classic as the undefeated 3-year-old seeks to prevent older horse Game On Dude from a repeat victory in the $1 million race Aug. 24 at Del Mar.

The Pacific Classic will be the 10th of 11 races on the Sunday Del Mar card and is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win and You're In" race that earns the winner an automatic spot in this year's Breeders' Cup Classic. The NBC Sports Network will broadcast the Pacific Classic live from 5-6 p.m. (PDT) with post time scheduled for 5:46 p.m.

A son of Candy Ride trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Shared Belief will break from the outside 11 post position in the 1 ¼-mile test over the main track at the Southern California track. Shared Belief has won his five races by a combined margin of nearly 30 lengths while banking $772,200. He is owned by Jim Rome's Jungle Racing, KMN Racing, Hollendorfer, Jason Litt, George Todaro, and Alex Solis II.

Seven-year-old Game On Dude, who romped to a record-setting 8 ½-length triumph last year, drew post 5 and was listed right behind his younger rival at 3-1 odds. Trained by Bob Baffert for Mercedes Stable, the Lanni Family Trust, and Bernard Schiappa, Game On Dude has won 16 of 33 career starts with eight placings. The gelded son of Awesome Again has earned more than $6.4 million.

Next on odds-maker Russell Hudak's list at 9-2 is Gallant Stables' Majestic Harbor, who rolled past fading favorite Game On Dude en route to a 6 ¼-length victory in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes June 28 at Santa Anita Park. The upset victory at odds of 14-1 marked the first Grade 1 win for the son of Rockport Harbor and his Southern California-based trainer Sean McCarthy.

Tabbed at 8-1 are Clubhouse Ride (post 9) and Irish Surf (post 2). A 6-year-old son of Candy Ride trained by Craig Lewis, Clubhouse Ride has won or placed in 24 of 38 starts and earned $1,320,132. Owned by Six-S Racing Stable and Nikolas Petralia, Clubhouse Ride won the Californian Stakes at Santa Anita Park two years in a row and most recently finished second in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita.

Trained by Dan Hendricks for breeder Gainesway Stable and Thor-Bred Bred Stable, Irish Surf is coming off his first stakes triumph in the 1 ½-mile Cougar Handicap at Del Mar.
