Matchup-friendly fantasy targets

If there is one lesson to be learned from the first four weeks of the 2014 fantasy football season, it is that even the best players in the NFL aren't immune to the benefits and pitfalls of matchups.

Aaron Rodgers is a prime example of this. He had such a terrible game against the tough Detroit Lions defense in Week 3 that it seemed necessary for him to spell out advice for upset Packers fans. A Week 4 contest against a banged-up Chicago defense led to a tremendous stat line (302 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions) and fantasy point total (28) that might have put many of those doubts to rest, but the reality of the situation is that Rodgers is apt to reach those point totals only when he has highly favorable matchups.

This week's Fantasy Foresight article aims to assist fantasy owners in finding players with favorable matchups in Weeks 5 to 8 who can be acquired in trade, picked up via waivers or moved from bench slots to starting roles.

Also included below are three players whose outstanding Week 4 performances will continue this season, three players who are not likely to repeat their Week 4 successes or struggles, and three waiver-wire suggestions heading into Week 5.

Running backs

Arian Foster, Houston Texans

A hamstring injury has held Foster to a mere eight carries and five fantasy points over the past two weeks. That makes him something of a risky candidate to acquire via trade or put into the starting lineup, but that risk could be more than offset by an incredibly positive schedule.
