Jrue Holiday's potential and the extra point
By Beckley Mason and Tom Haberstroh
Aug 30, 2012 11:29 AM

So, the 76ers got Andrew Bynum. Now what? Now, Jrue Holiday needs to be more like Derrick Rose. And to do that, he needs to become an “extra-point player.” Being an "extra-point player," a term coined by Henry Abbott, is the difference between being a very good player and an All-Star, ...

Wow, i remember reading this article back in August. Look where Jrue is now. One of the best point guards in the league now!

Philadelphia will be an entirely different team this season compared with the last few. The team hasn't had a post up Center in over a decade, and the team also got rid of Andre Iguodala, Lou Williams and Elton Brand, who were the team's primary scorers. Jrue Holliday will have a chance to become a premier point guard now that he has targets to pass to. The Sixers will probably try to start running a high-low post offense with Bynum and Hawes, providing ample opportunities for the guards and forwards to cut to the basket or spot up for threes. Think of Orlando over the past few seasons, except with better finishers and speed. The team loaded up this off season on lots of outside shooters so Doug Collins will have lots of chances to experiment and mix and match with this group. He can play small ball or put one of the biggest teams in the league on the floor. Jrue will be a critical component as he is the only true point guard on the team and a lot will be on him as a player. Expect to see the Sixers come up with pick and roll plays with the personnel they have.

Power Forwards... on second though middle finger to PF if your name isn't Kevin Love, Gasol, Blake, Randolph, Tim Duncan, Chris Bosh, Boozer (that's right I said Boozer), Amare Stoudemire, shut up.. These dudes it seems like it always depends on the day to decide who the best is, although Love and Bosh are usually the top at the spot. But really it always depends on the Day all had monster games last year.

Shooting Guard (lord forgive me) 1. Kobe Bryant (Last year I would have said mr. Wade but....yeahhh that dude fell off last year) 2. Dwayne Wade (still a beast tho 3. Monte Ellis (GO LOOK AT HIS STATS LAST YEAR IF YOU DISAGREE) 4. Joe Johnson (he kinda deserves his pay check I guess, although they can thank the former top 3 SG T-Mac for that win against the Heat last year) 5. James Harden (tired of doing this so i'm stopping at 5)

I really like Monta, but idk what impact he can really make this season playing in such a terrible lineup. If he plays really well, he's just another "average player posting big numbers on a bad team". If he drops off in anyways he's just "overrated". It's a lose/lose for him in Milwaukee.

Small Forwards 1. Lebron (and i hate this dude..but i won't deny him his place) 2. Kevin Durant (on lebron's heels so close that when he breathes, lebron's hairline recedes a lil more) 3. Carmelo (now if he would only ALWAYS play defense) 4. Rudy Gay 5. Luol Deng (Probably top 3 in this postion on defense next to LeBron and KD, in fact no one plays d on Lebron or Durant better than Deng, and he's got a nice shot to help his credit) 6. The Truth aka Paul Pierce 7. Andre Iggy 8. Granger 9. Batum 10. Gerald Wallace

Point Guards 1. D Rose (i'm not talking about best traditional point guard, I'm talking the best Point guard, whose goal is make sure your team is in the best position to score. averaging 25 and 7 or 23 and 8 is pretty much the definition of making sure your team scores. That's why i put him over CP3 but it is a toss up for real although Rose has never lost to CP3) 2. CP3 (see above) 3. D-Will ( A lil Rose, a lil Paul. Can't be mad) 4. Rondo (if he had a jump shot, that would change everything....but he doesn't) 5. Tony Parker (Did you watch last season???) 6. Russel Westbrook (big part of PG is decision making and as soon as he matures his athleticism and shot can excel him to a top 5 spot, possibly top 3, however he is not there now. ) 7. Steve Nash (Sorry nash, gotta play Defense now to be top 5, so his top PG status is probably done for his career) 8. John Wall (I know we forgot about the wizards, but we couldn't have forgotten about him!) 9. Stephen Curry 10. Ricky Rubio (it's a stretch but damn can he pass)

saw a centers list that was all screwed up. here's a better more accurate one. 1.D12 2. Bynum 3. Noah (why he was 9 is ridiculous. he is a GAME CHANGER in more than 1 way. Defense, passing, rebounding, energy, leadership..etc.) 4. Tyson Chandler T5. Roy Hibbert and Marc Gasol 7. Bogut 8. everything from here out is pretty much a toss up. Bogut is probably the last person to have a secure spot.
