Film study: Tebow package gets messy
By Rich Cimini
Oct 9, 2012 11:05 PM

The Jets were right: The Wildcat is causing a lot of confusion -- for them, not the opponent. They wasted two timeouts and hurried another play -- all in the fourth quarter of Monday night's 23-17 loss to the Texans -- and the common denominator was ... you guessed it, the Tim Tebow package. The fi...

I think everyone can agree (maybe?) that Sparano is a horrible coach. He was bad as a HC in Miami, and he's a bad OC with the Jets this year. Now, I could be wrong, but that's just my opinion; and, it seems to be the consensus of others that I've listened to, as well. Does anyone know his credentials? Was he a previous OC before he was a HC in Miami, and is he back to his original coaching slot now? If so, was he any good as an OC in years past?

The Jets have marginal players at best and dumb coaches on the bench. 5-11 is the best they cam hope for.

Do you see their schedule? It would probably be harder for them to go 5-11 than it would be for them to go 8-8.

Not really.

Sparano is using Tebow at all the wrong times. Two huge completions from Sanchez, and you're going to kill his rhythm by putting in Tebow the next play? It happens multiple times per game, and I cringe every time it happens. Tebow has a big ~15 yard run to put them on the two, gets stuffed the next play, and he subs him out. Tebow is the most efficient goal line option we have. Give him more than one shot to punch it in.

how is confusion, then a time out AND THEN inserting the Wildcat personnelconfusion caused BY the Wildcat? If they came back with non WC personnel the timeout was called already. Occum's Razor: simplest answer is probably right.: 3 missing starters in Holmes, Hill and Keller led to people being unfamiliar with new roles, also J Hill and Gates are here 1 and 2 weeks.

Someone asked below who will Jets draft next year after the impending poor season concludes. My take is as follows. Who disagrees with it? Since Jets are stuck with Sanchez and Holmes for 1 more year they will try transitioning to McElroy, use Hill and Kerley, and beef up everywhere else.. they have so many holes it will take years to rebuild anyway and they need a real GM who, unlike T-Bomb, will trade down to get more picks .. Ryan will be kept so they will bring in more D and a running back.. also a blocking TE who can catch as Keller won't return
221 Days ago
>
Dave576
We have a blocking and catching TE- Reuland was in question for blocking and was waived by SF for this assumption but now that he has had reps with Jets, although only 5 weeks, he has obviously proven Niners wrong. AS for catching, Reuland led Niners for receptions in preseason, 9 and no drops, was never sent downfield or in the seam, Stanford and ND all revered his ball catching and was #1 TE in Nation out of High School- Sanchez was his QB at Mission Viejo. There was CIF final game in which Reuland was jumping and waving in endzone with nobody near him but Sanchez through to triple covered receiver for incomplete- Hmmm, mistakes still lingering as with Texans game at end of 2nd- same thing.

jgpeters11
Too funny. The Jets will never trade down for more draft picks to fill holes. They'll either draft where they are (and will draft a defensive player with huge upside but with a high bust factor as well), or they'll trade up. You guys ought to know the drill by now.

Everyone says that they are going to be hurt with the cap next year. they are going to have plenty of money to re-up Revis to a long term deal which he will be happy about. Now he is going to want more money over years instead of being the highest paid corner in the league. Another knee injury could mean his career.

he has no leverage coming off this type of injury, they will be able to afford him especially if they can somehow clear clowns contracts like holmes/scott/harris

If Rex stays, revis won't be dealt, I agree with you that mark should be benched for mcelroy but that won't happen, rex and mike T traded up for Mark and have year after year have said he is our QB, if mark goes/gets benched say goodbye to rex and mike T, they should use early picks for RB/offensive line.....later picks for TE/OLB/DE.......honestly I'd try to trade for a receiver by dealing harris/scott and anyone else

I saw trent play 2-3 years at alabama because I went to auburn, and trust me I knew he was going to be great, he was 3x better then mark ingram the year he was in the running for heisman he just got less hype because he was younger and got the ball less, trent is a solid rock

The Jets have more passing yards this year than the Texans,49ers, Cowboys, Steelers, and the Lions all who supposedly have good quarterbacks. All of those teams also have HUGE game changing athletes to help out their quarterbacks. And on top of that Atlanta is only one in front of them. The facts are that Sanchez is a QB who has a lot to still learn and go through with receivers who shouldn't even be on the field yet alone starting. Our run game horrible/boring. If anyone should be replaced or benched it should be tannebaum cause none of our draft picks in the last 3 years have really worked out. Revis and Harris were drafted in 2007 and Keller in 2008. I happen to like Sanchez but the kid seriously has no talent anywhere around him period

Sanchez stats are actually better than Eli's stats through this point in their careers..i know eli won the superbowl in his 4th years but he also had a tremendous defense of line which we don't and a game changer on offense which we don't
221 Days ago
>
nygiants0513
The real problem is if they bench sanchez or decide to trade him, there goes tannenbuam and rex's job, specifically because there the 1's who traded up in the draft to get him and they gave him a contract extension this year, so benching sanchez is the absolute last resort
221 Days ago
>
MexiRoll6
I have been saying that since last year, but you are right. Which is why the tebow move looks so suspect now. I think that was a Woody move, made just to grab headlines, as everyone NOT named Skip Bayless has accused them of.
>
MexiRoll6
Sanchez gets yards in chunks BETWEEN the 20's. In the red zone he throws it to the other guys or has passes batted down by d-linemen who read his eyes as he follows his target across the field. Sanchez gets yards - NOT POINTS.
>
sheehanr
he wasn't bad in red zone last year but that was because we had Plax, Tom Moore designing red zone plays, and also because Sanchez trusted himself to run it in more than throw it in
221 Days ago
>
nygiants0513
Its irrelevant having more passing yards then texans/49ers because they have elite running backs that take load off there passing game, plus jets probably attempt more passes because there running game is awful when there goal is to be a run oriented team, and sanchez shouldn't be this bad in his 4th year, regardless of tools around him are slim to none, he has had more players in the past granted but now he has a worse OC and this whole tebow nonsense is the last thing this team needed, its time to re-build starting with Tannenbaum

Ellis getting hurt stinks he was playing the best on the dline in the middle. Harrison did show something on a few plays especially that 3rd and short late in the game. I think when ellis comes back the Jets need to go to a 4-3 ala the ravens of 2000 when they had Siragusa and that other huge dude in middle. Coples/Mo de Ellis/Harrison or Sione in the Middle Linebackers should be Maybin Harris and Davis maybin is a loose cannon but you cant teach the speed and hustle he brings. Davis is young but again speed hustle. Harris would have easier time getting to running backs with ellis and harrison clogging up the middle. Coples and Mo would have more one on one and hopefully can get some sacks. On offense it might be time now with Keller and Hill coming back to use the pass to set up the run and also give Mcknight Powell and Grimes more carries and use Greene Later in games.

Mental mistakes are the product of poor coaching, and the Jets are very poorly coached. Ryan, by sticking with Sanchez has proven to be as stubborn as his dad and will suffer the same fate. Tanny looks to be a goner because of his indifference towards player personnel, which just HAPPENS to be his job. Jets are a mess and it doesn't look like it will get better any time soon. Indy 27, Jets 17.

Sanchez has played his way OUT of a job on most ANY other team. How can you put up with 48 percent completions and picks to d-linemen -or at least balls batted down at an alarming rate? You can't. Tanny has put together such a fine group of talent hasn't he? Ground and pound with THAT O-line PULease! And those RB's.....sure thing. Jets have a heck of a rebuilding job ahead.

"Jet fandom claiming the reason the Offense was so offensive was because Schotty sucked.......was so predictable.....never called downfield plays." Seriously all of you are absolutely ridicoulas if you really think sparano is a better OC, the guy is terrible I said this as soon you hired him, 29-31 as a head coach and 1 playoff win, shotty accomplished way more then that with only a few years on the jets compared to sparano entire career! and now the rams for the first time in many years have a winning record!, at this rate the rams could very easily have a better season then the jets and all of you laughed when I said this before season started

trizzuto2810
I would say that most Jets fans didn't want Sparano either, however, it made sense when they said they wanted to go back to ground and pound. The problem is, they don't have the personnel to ground and pound anymore. In 2009-10, they had the best O-line in football and Thomas Jones and then Thomlinson in the backfield. Shonn Green has proven he is not a #1 back. He has been terrible this year. You can't ground and pound if you cannot run. The Jets used to do a lot of zone blocking for big runs, but they don't do that anymore. I think they have rushed for over 100 yards just once, when they used to average over 170 yds rushing.
