Ever since getting swept from the 2011 playoffs, the Lakers have been in search of a championship identity. That quest has looked largely fruitless this season, but recently, reasons for optimism have surfaced. Increasing point totals. Road games turning less treacherous. A quiet string of wins fue...

Our weakness is point GUARD and you just cant COVER that up!! the position is just too important, and without improvement there, we will get T-ROLLED in the playoffs by anyone with a decent point guard(we can beat dallas cause kidd is just as slow footed as fisher!! EVERYONE can see how bad we need a point, but why havent the LAKERS pursued one???? Get a grip MITCH!!

i am sure the lakers are thrilled to know you endorse them......... However, unless they get a guard whu actually knows what to do with the ball, this team is going nowhere.............. they are a dysfunctional mess........after years of jackson, they are left with a star catering buffoon as the head coach, and a superstar who wants to be in charge of everything form taking tickets to shootong the last shot........ they will be lucky to win one round in the playoffs

It's pretty easy for the Lakers to contend. Give 10 of Kobe's shots each game to Bynum & Gasol and they have a shot to come out of the West.

C'mon they can't do that, Kobe needs to catch Kareem. Isn't that what this whole team is turning into, a prop for Kobe's pursuit?

Get Rondo without giving up Gasol or Bynum and I'll buy in!

The Lakers are fine. First, its the blown Paul trade and the subsequent Odom trade to Dallas that is going to doom the Lakers season. Then, ESPN makes a huge deal over a players only meeting (which is rather common in the NBA), speculates that the team is splitting apart over Pau trade rumors and disagreements with the coaching staff, and that it would destroy the Lakers season. Yet the Lakers are 23-14, and are a half game in front of the Clippers for first place in the Pacific Division. Add to it the ridiculous articles debating whether Los Angeles is a Lakers of Clippers town ("Hey ESPN, spoiler alert! Los Angeles belongs to the Lakers. It's Lakers championship banners hanging from the rafters at Staples Center, not the Clippers. Here is another spoiler alert; The Lakers are the best team in Los Angeles, and one of the best teams in the NBA.

I thought this article was going to be about Baby, the rapper, trying to buy a piece of Lakers ownership, haha.

I'm not hating on Kobe, but in general stats don't always tell the whole story. I'll bet Magic's stats are nowhere near this but would anyone argue his value or contibutions?

Get Deron Williams or someone similar and we are a legitimate contender. Without a legitimate point guard the Lakers are a Dark Horse.....the Little Engine that could, but didn't. We would have been set with CP3, except for that bias $@% of commissioner Stern $@%!$@% us in the $@%!!! But I digress.....

Gasol is such an underrated player! If he were to get more looks and more opportunities on offense, alongside Bynum- we can contend with ANY team in the league. Kobe needs to reduce his shot attempts and feed the that two headed monster! We do need a PG because Fisher can not keep up with other guards in the league, especially CP3 and Westbrook.. so lets shop for a solid PG

Kobe takes his own guys out of games, makes them lose interest to a degree. Jackson was great at keeping everyone engaged and able to overcome Kobe playing his own game at times. Doubt Brown can do the same.

You also have to realize this is an offense that is not running with its main cog, a point guard. The triangle was good for Pau as he could get easy shots via the system. This offense requires a drive and dish guy. It's been beat to death that the Lakers don't have that, which is true. I am on the other side of the fence in thinking if you get younger and address needs, you move Pau. I think his overall ability is beginning to fade, just a little. You have to think, he's been a pro since 15.

btoglesby...good point. perhaps he could be but he doesn't seem to assert himself the same was as some. also, Bynum is shooting 5 more shots than last year and Gasol is shooting at a lower percentage. The scoring dropoff has alot to do with the loss of Odom. He scored 14/game last year and helped create with the second unit. After Kobe, Pau and Bynum, next best this year is Barnes at 7/game. need someone to be in that 10-12 range.

Jarralpo, it seems like Gasol doesn't get as many shots as he should, but surprisingly, his shot output is pretty much the same as it was in Memphis. I don't think he is a player you can go through every time.

...if Odom was still there, they'd probably be right up at the top as well.

Kobe does seem to be shooting a bit much but the big guys also need to fight harder for position to get the rock at the right spot. the clock is ticking on getting a pg. perhaps we could snag Aaron Brooks from China. not sure what else is out there.

now THATS an ideal that sounds like a winner!! Aaron Brooks!! Yes, you are a genius DB7!!

If the lakers don't land Dwight Howard they should focus on a PG like Deron Williams or a Monte Ellis or maybe Gilbert arenas or someone to help the back court

Ellis is no PG, he is a shoot first SG. No way he and Kobe coexist.

To those of you saying trade andrew for dwight have you lost your minds. Have you not heard the reports saying even if dwight were to get traded to LA it wouldn't guarantee dwight signing a long term contract. Meaning he could walk away during the summer leaving us with no dwight and no andrew. Besides we dont need dwight, Andrew is a much better fundamental player who rather play the game then go film movies which is what dwight ultimately wants to do. The only player the Lakers need to acquire is Deron Williams.

Trade Gasol to the Twolves for Beaseley and a #1 Pick, Trade Andrew Bynum to Orlando for Dwight Howard. Lakers get Bynum, Beaseley, #1 Pick, Nelson: Wolves get Gasol,. Orlando gets williams Bynum and Metta world peace

Have you seen Minnesota's record? That #1 pick won't even be a lottery pick.

Have read Felton is available and would be a great addition to the Lake Show and would not cost much. He adds the speed we need plus he is a very capable ball handler. Lakers have too many slugs on their bench (Walton, McBob, Kapono, Morris and Ebanks [those 2 are still young so that might change]).

felton would be a nice fit if they could make it work and not give up much.
