Dodgers may have an edge for Hiroki Kuroda
By Mark Saxon

There might be a reason why the Los Angeles Angels have reportedly gotten involved in trying to sign free agent pitcher Hiroki Kuroda. Previously, teams have been under the impression that Kuroda would either re-sign with the New York Yankees or return to his native Japan to finish his career. But ...

When are the Dodgers going to finally get rid of Billingsley? Remember a few years ago when we had a chance to trade a package around Bills for Roy Halladay? We didn't pull the trigger because of management's blind love for the dude, and having McCheap around didn't help either.

Losing a first round pick to sign him would be tough, but , we're trying to win now so I say we sign him. A one year deal is perfect and come next year he comes off the payroll along with Lilly, Harang and Capuano.

Lilly has shown almost nothing and Capuano and Harang are barely serviceable. Kuroda has shown he can pitch in Yankee Stadium and be very effective. Billingsley will likely miss much if not all of the year. Get Kuroda for $11M...he has earned it.

who cares what the number is. 11, 13, 15.... I had no idea what the Yankees offered. Hiroki clearly likes it in LA. Give him what makes him and happy and move on to the next item of signing the street fighter Ryu.

Those 200 quality innings of Kuroda's, many of which came in the 6th-8th innings, is really the key for the Dodgers, their equally old geezers Capuono and Harang rarely getting out of the 6th. But the revisionism to protect Ned Colletti's incompetence last year in not even calling Kuroda's agent, and lying about it, while months later the agent publicly stated Colletti had never contacted him, should embarrass you, Mark Saxon. For you to continue the media-wide cover for this bumbling oaf is not a mistake on your part, but willful deception. For you to blame the bankruptcy proceedings as the reason Colletti lied about making contact with Kuroda's agent is Colletti-esque. During bankruptcy, Colletti spent tens of millions on his usual assortment of junk he found along the beach, giving Harang and Capuono two-year contracts when he could have given Kuroda the equivalent of one of their two years before announcing/liying that Kuroda preferred to play elsewhere despite his stated assertion he wanted to stay with the Dodgers. This, one of MANY examples of Ned's lying bufoonery, quite probably cost LA a postseason berth. Ned and the entire San Francisco Giants organization thanks you, i'm sure, for continuing the fiction he knows or cares what he's doing. The public be warned.

I would not like this move Kuroda 37 is not what I was hoping or looking for. I want a strong #2 or #1 guy to build with Kershaw and Kuroda is nice pitcher but not an Ace.. I thought we would be more creative the this.

People in LA love Kuroda. They'll welcome him back with open arms. Never complains and just pitches..and pretty good I might add.

Native Angeleno: Are you the "column critic" of Mark Saxon? Maybe you should be his proof reader!

Blame McCourt NOT the Dodgers as stated on the article. Not exactly in those words, but you get the point. "Largely due to financial constraints while they were in bankruptcy, the Dodgers did not make Kuroda a formal offer when he was a free agent last winter -- though he was coming off a season with a 3.07 ERA and more than 200 innings pitched. He went to New York and went 16-11 with a 3.32 ERA."

My predictions of the rotation next year: 1. Kershaw- 2.50-2.70 era (in the hunt for Cy young) 2. Kuroda- 3.20-3.30 era 3. Beckett- 3.50 era 4. Ryu- anywhere from 3.50-4.00 era 5 Billingsley- 3.50 era Plus a near unstoppable lineup, we have what it takes to win it all

Sounds good as long as Billingsley avoids elbow surgery or he'll be out for the 2013 season.

as long as the dodgers stay healthy and play as a team, the dodgers will have a great team.
