Checking in with Kevin Faulk
By Mike Reiss & Mike Rodak

QUINCY -- Longtime Patriots running back Kevin Faulk played in the fourth-annual golf tournament to benefit the Joe Andruzzi Foundation on Monday, which presented the opportunity to catch up with him about his future. Faulk reiterated what he's said all offseason -- if he plays in 2012, it will be ...

I really think they should bring Faulk back as a running back coach he would continue to be a good mentor for the young ones like Vereen and Ridley. He is wise and loyal, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the sidelines next year

While I first had to get over my extreme hate of anything Colts before I could see objectively, I now see that Addai for Faulk is a great exchange. Addai is a very competent and well rounded back. For the last couple months I hoped Addai would never set foot on the field, but I think he may be a good addition for the 3rd back... Not 3rd down, but 3rd depth, behind Ridley and Vereen. I think Woodhead may have run out of luck.

Wood head is going to be on the team.

Perhaps, but how many 3rd down guys will they keep? Seeing their apparent commitment to the FB position, you'd assume they're going to keep at least 1 FB plus Ridley, Vereen, Addai... so is Woodhead valuable enough to keep 5 RB's? Or would they keep the UFA (forgot his name) on the practice squad as insurance instead??

Woodhead is going to be on the team, so you might be overstating things with your last line.

He may run a 4.9 40 now. It's time to move on Kevin. Bring branch with you =

Great player and patriot, but it's time.

Why didn't he just retire gracefully at the end of last season? He is really making this awkward for everyone. What could he possibly contribute to the team this year besides blocking the development of Ridley, Vereen and (to a much lesser extent) Woodhead. Plus we have Joseph Addai who is younger and can do about the same things as Faulk at this point. Please, Kevin. You were one of the great all-time Patriots, and I know you WANT to keep playing... but please just accept that its over. I'm sure you would be welcomed with open arms if you wanted to help coach the RB's and/or special teamers this year.

I think Ivan Fears might have something to say regarding the open arms ...

I said HELP coach.. not take over as the top RB coach. I'm sure Coach Fears would love to have Kevin helping him out in some capacity.

who knows? it is possible BB asked him to be ready just in case

I guess in a super emergency situation... But I'd rather see Bolden, the undrafted rookie out there than Kevin Faulk at this point. I think we all saw last year that Kevin Faulk is done as a difference maker. Its sad, but true. I love Faulk, which is why I want to see him get into coaching on this team.

I'd really love to see him coach the RBs one day. He's a Patriot for life.

agreed, he would be a great coach; knows the system inside and out, went through his own fumbling issues, and corrected them- perfect fit, if he wants to go that route

He would have been useless against the Giant Front 7

I love Faulk but I hope we don't see him back on the roster.

I personally feel that if Bill Belicheck didnt think he was good enough to dress or play for the superbowl then he most likely isn't good enough any longer to make the team. I hope he does but you never know.

If I recall correctly BB did not dress him because he felt his knee was not 100%.

Wes Welker via twitter: "Beautiful day in Aspen. Workout, eat, bike ride, eat, massage, eat, and go to bed. Love this place!" I wonder if he remembers last night? lol If this is a bachelor getaway with other guys he should probably leave out the "bike ride" and add in something more fitting. Like maybe "crash a few parties".. :)

I'm hesitant to place much faith in a story which is being reported only in the gossip pages of the New York Post; it's like believing everything that is written in the National Enquirer.

the only way faulk makes the team is if there are a rash of injuries at RB; Addai, Ridley and Vereen would all have to be on the shelf for Kev to make it; love the dude for all he has done, but his time has passed, it was clear last year that, other than blitz pickup, he is not the same guy with the ball in his hands

addai will be cut and they will pick up faulk at the end of training camp. He already knows the system and playbook.

there is a reason he went undrafted; shows some promise, but he would have to be stellar to surpass any of the other guys

When Bolden was signed, a lot of people were hyped. However through OTAs and Minicamp, we haven't heard much of him. Remember, he's an UDFA - "high profile" UDFA, but still at a disadvantage when going against a veteran who has proven to be effective when healthy.

addai is what? 6 years younger with a similar skill set and has not worn off too much tread on his tires the last 2 years because of injury-- he is, at this point, much faster than faulk, good in blitx pickup -- no way does he get cut in favor of faulk unless injuries arise-- if Bolden surprises everyone he might get addai cut, but the chances of that are a million to one

have you heard any updates on Addai's performance so far in OTA's? Is he doing well? I haven't seen anything yet. I'm just going on a gut feeling.

I thought 2011 was Kevin Faulk's "victory lap". I love the guy, but on the field I don't know how much he has left.

I do. Nothing

I think the next time we hear from Kevin Faulk is when the Patriots resign him to a one day contract and he retires the next day.

Your're right it does usually happen coming for another team but Faulk is an unrestricted free agent and is not under contract with the Patriots or any other team. It would be more of ceremonial type thing.

porterjax33
Do they have to sign him to a one-day contract if the Patriots were the last team he played for? I thought that was if you played for another team.

Whoa! Two guys wrote this short article? Must be slow day. Take the day off guys and go play some golf!
