Mark "Guru" Garrow
Hey everybody...good afternoon...I just had something come up that I must take care of...The phone call won't take long so I'm asking for your patience and I'll be back on at 3:15...Again, sorry about this but I'll be right back and we'll take the chat into overtime today as well. Thanks..Guru out and be right back.
Mark "Guru" Garrow
Thanks for your patience everyone...I had a little accident today with a septic line and let's just say it turned out to be a messy project..lol...let's get the questions now.
Zach (Fennimore, WI)
How's this for a preliminary lineup? 5, 10, 11, 18, 48. I particularly like the picks of the 11, 18 and 48 going into Richmond as well. I managed a 167 despite Keselowski's 30th place finish last week.Or am I better off downgrading the 5 or 11 in favor of someone like the 9 and then I can take the 22 with my last pick?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
You need to upgrade the 10 some how Zach...Now, my pre-race rankings have the 5 and the 12 and you can read why on my preview that should already be posted..So, I would give serious consideration to those guys...I'm not a huge fan of the 18 at Atlanta either. He'll be good but not as stout as Hamlin...As for the 22 he's a major question mark in my mind at Atlanta and I think Regan Smith might be the best floor pick this week.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do think will win the NRA American Warrior 300 & the Advocare 500 at Atlanta?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
I thinking Denny Hamlin or Ricky Stenhouse on Saturday night and Kahne is my top pick Sunday followed by Hamlin.
Zach (Fennimore, WI)
Guys like Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards have been the ultimate examples of a "feast or famine" type guy at Atlanta. Either they finish in the Top 10 or outside the Top 30 (assumingly due to a wreck or mechnical issue); there are literally no finishes in between for either driver. How do you treat guys like this for fantasy?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
You treat them carefully...but look at how Kahne ran at Kansas and Kentucky...both were wore out 1.5-mile tracks like Atlanta..So I really like him this week...Carl will be good...but I don't think that team has found all the speed they need to run up front.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Prior to 2012, Who was the Last Female Driver to Race in a Sprint Cup Series Race at Atlanta?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
Sorry man...not a clue...I'm going to guess maybe Shauna Robinson
Shannon (Hampton)
Who are your top five for this weekend? And who would be a good couple of lower priced drivers?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
I'm going to put up my top-30 right after this answer so you'll have my top-5 and more...as for lower priced drivers Regan Smith should be solid..If he's not a start and park then Casey Mears will bring you an 18th-20th place finish at a nice price..Sam Hornish,Jr. is another possible but I have some questions about him going in...Believe it or not, Juan Pablo Montoya has scored more points than any other driver in the last four races at Atlanta.
Mark "Guru" Garrow
Here's the my pre-race top-30....1.Kasey Kahne2.Denny Hamlin3.Jimmie Johnson4.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.5.Brad Keselowski6.Jeff Gordon7.Matt Kenseth8.Tony Stewart9.Carl Edwards10.Martin Truex, Jr.11.Kyle Busch12.Greg Biffle13.Marcos Ambrose14.Clint Bowyer15.Ryan Newman16.Kevin Harvick17.Paul Menard18.Mark Martin19.Juan Pablo Montoya20.Jeff Burton21.Joey Logano22.Regan Smith23.Jamie McMurray24.Sam Hornish, Jr.25.Casey Mears26.Aric Almirola27.Trevor Bayne28.Bobby Labonte29.Kurt Busch30.David Gilliland
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Ilinois)
Hell-o Mark, I took a "Pants Down Spanking" @ Bristol! I NEED HELP ! 17 or 99? 16 or 14? I've got Vickers and can fanagle a trade for Martin, BUT would the 9 be a better pick? ( I should never have traded him in last week) Thanks , Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow
You and me both got whipped at Bristol...I didn't help a lot of folks on the 9 because I basically recommended against and Marcos made me eat crow pie...I like the 17 over the 99 and Tony over "The Bif"..There's only two races left in the segment so you can throw caution to the wind...what if you had Kahne and Hamlin as your top two and then worked from there..I bet you could come up with a pretty interesting team.
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Ilinois)
Mark, We will be @ Chicagoland! I'd like to shake your hand if I make my way up to the Pressbox. Any chance? Thanks, Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow
I'd love to do that Bill, I believe Chicago is the only Chase race I'll miss this year. I'm hosting the kids from my church in a weekend camp out on my property.
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, hope you're doing well today. Did alright at Bristol last weekend with the MWR cars coming through and the 99 almost. This week my prelim is 48-55-56-21. However, only have 2 starts left with the 55 and 5 left with the 5 who is one of my backups. Should I make the switch? 5 for 55?Also, Mark my Grandpa Brown passed away yesterday so I was wondering if everyone could just say a prayer for him and the rest of my family, especially my Mom and her siblings. He can now get to see my Grandma in heaven. Thank you.
Mark "Guru" Garrow
Nick..glad you mentioned Trevor Bayne..I should have added him in my answer to Shannon about possible low budget drivers who could score pretty big..At 13.2 that's tempting to put four big guns with him and he was top-10 at Vegas..I would trade out the 55 and 5..And I am sorry to hear about your grandfather...we're all family here so we'll definitely try to lift you and your family up...This circle of life thing sometimes it really stinks.
KARL (COLUMBIA)
If Edwards does not make the chase, will he run additional NNS races or is there more lead time needed to set that up? How do you think Stenhouse will do next year in Cup racing. I understand he will be in the 6 as opposed to the 17, not that it matters...True?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
He might run a few more Nationwide races Karl, but if he misses the Chase RFR will be concentraing on his Cup team and nothing else, trying to find what he needs to be competitive.
Corey Hodges (Charlotte, NC)
Hey, Guru! Just a quick Wild-Card question...does KB hold on to the second spot or does Carl Edwards win one of the final two races to jump into the spot? Seems like Richmond is Kyle's race to lose...so where does Cousin Carl pick up that much-needed win? Thanks!
Mark "Guru" Garrow
If everybody top-20 in the points following Kasey has one win..it's goes to the guy highest in the standings..With Kahne 11th and Edwards currently 12th with Busch 13th...So,yes if Carl wins this weekend he'll be in line to get the wild card if no other one win driver takes Richmond and ends with two victories.
Ryan R. (Clermont, FL)
Regardless of qualifying position is Mark Martin too much of a risk due to previous engine issues on the tri-ovals this season?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
That does give me a little pause for concern Ryan..but I think they have solved those issues..Everyone in that $$ area has a lot of risk
Taylor (VA)
2,5,16,43?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
Hut..hut..oh not a quarterback call lol..2,5,and 16 are solid...43 is not...
Jill (OH)
Hi Mark. How will jr. fare in the chase?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
I think he's someone that can finish top-5 in the Chase..HMS equipment is very, very solid and that will keep him in the hunt if he keeps his nose clean as he's done most of the season.
Checkered Flag Charlie (NJ)
Who do you see making a jump and finishing with one of the wild card spots?
Mark "Guru" Garrow
I think Gordon and Busch are the two most likely drivers to do it..remember Gordon is the defending winner of the Advocare 500.
