Ryan McGee
Nope. I've worked for ESPN and FOX and I was editor-in-chief at NASCAR Media Group for five years. I've worked with them all and even hired a few back in the day. I root for everyone to do well. It's a genuinely nice bunch of folks, no matter what letters are on their microphone.
Ted (Conway Ma)
Speaking of Danica, do you think she will end up following Dario Franchiti back to Indy cars
Ryan McGee
Nope.
Saul (San Diego)
Is F1 coming to the united states? Would you attend.
Ryan McGee
It is. Coming to Austin, TX in November and to New Jersey in the near future. I love covering F1 races. Those cars literally take your breath away. But unfortunately, the Texas race is the same weekend as the Homestead finale. Big mistake in my opinion.
Tony (Illinois)
NASCAR officials don't have the luxury of debating what a particular piece of debris is. They have to make a judgement call for the safety of the competitors. Tony Stewart complains when the cautions hurt him, but he'd be complaining a lot more if what looked like a plastic water bottle turned out to be a metal can or glass bottle.
Ryan McGee
Exactly. The 45 seconds you spend trying to decide what kind of debris it is could be all it takes for someone to run over it, cut a tire, and cause a mess.
Jim Bayala (Cali)
Do you think Danica is struggling because Jr. Motorsports isn't on the same level as NW teams like Busch, Gibbs, Roush, Penske and CHildress?
Ryan McGee
No. I think she's struggling because this is hard. She's literally learning on the job.
Dave (Iowa)
Do manufacturers choose which cars to run in each series or is it NASCAR? I'm of the opinion that the Challenger and the Mustang look much cooler than the Charger and the Fusion.
Ryan McGee
They submit models to NASCAR for approval. It's up to them what they submit. But the decision to keep the Pony Cars in Nationwide was a NASCAR decision. They want each series to have their own identitiy. Have you seen the new Fusion for '13? It's pretty sweet looking. And so is the Dodge. My Chevy people tell me their car is equally rad. We'll find out soon.
Ed (Fort Worth)
I respect Kyle and his abilities, but I still don't like him at all. Having said that, it was nice to see him appreciative in Victory Lane. Far cry from Bristol when he won the first COT race. Maybe he's finally starting to figure it out.
Ryan McGee
If you go a while without winning it always helps you appreciate it more when you get back. There's no doubt he has matured some.
Jim Bayala (Cali)
Do you mean it was a big mistake for NASCAR to schedule the Homestead race on the same date as the United States Grand Prix?
Ryan McGee
No. I think it is a mistake for F1 to run that weekend. Bernie's doing it just to be Bernie. I feel bad for the people building the Austin track because that date is going to cut their national media coverage potential in half. Not to mention the weather has a very good chance of sucking.
Kurtis (Texas)
I know your not his biggest fan, but let's say Kurt gets a few more NW wins in Kyle's 54. Could Kurt/Monster become the 4th car at JGR?
Ryan McGee
Maybe. I really don't think JGR is interested in going to four teams. So if that happened it would mean someone (Logano) would get booted.
Ryan McGee
But the biggest hangup I see with that is Coach Gibbs being such a sponsor-first guy. Clearly he's willing to take on tough cases attitude-wise when it comes to drivers. But the main reason Kurt couldn't land a ride over winter was that sponsors didn't want to be associated. If that changes, I could see Gibbs taking a chance. If not, then no way it happens.
Saul (San Diego)
Do you miss the winged COT car?
Ryan McGee
I miss the CoT wing almost as much as I miss having spinal meningitis.
Steven (SC)
Now that Rowdy finally broke his long 20 race losing streak and has 24 cup wins, what is your prediction on the number of races Rowdy wins this season?
Ryan McGee
Three.
Vinnie (ATL)
Has Kurt spoken to Dr. Punch yet? I don't know Jerry, but he comes across as very likable on TV.
Ryan McGee
They're all good. They spoke over the winter and then even did a televised "hug it out" on ESPN at Daytona.
Michael (Flower Mound)
Do you think Kyle's Nationwide program is finally up to par, or is there still room for more improvement?
Ryan McGee
One short track win doesn't cure all ailments. But it certainly doesn't hurt.
Larry (Il)
Your top 5 drivers and a darkhorse for Dega?
Ryan McGee
Give me the 88, 15, 29, 18, and 5.
Ryan McGee
For darkhorses, take Kurt and Regan Smith.
Ryan McGee
Alright folks, gotta go. Thanks for your patience today. I had a couple of knuckleheads sending in the same question 50 times and had to sift through those. Until next time I'll see you on Twitter and I'll see you at Talladega this weekend! Please tip the wait staff and enjoy the music of Government Cheese.
