After going nearly a month without a series win, the Mets beat the Cubs, 4-3 on Sunday to take two of three from Chicago. The last series the Mets had won dated back to April 19-21, when they took two of three from Washington.

METS (17-24, fourth place/NL East) vs. CINCINNATI REDS (26-18, second place/NL Central) Monday: RHP Shaun Marcum (0-4, 6.75) vs. RHP Johnny Cueto (1-0, 2.60), 7:10 p.m. ET Tuesday: LHP Jonathon Niese (3-4, 5.

OMAHA 4, LAS VEGAS 3: Ex-Met Xavier Nady had an RBI double and scored the go-ahead run later in the sixth on Anthony Seratelli's single against Armando Rodriguez. The 51s (20-21) had taken a 3-2 lead in the fifth on Wilmer Flores' solo homer.

CHICAGO -- Andrew Brown found an inopportune time to suffer an injury. Stationed at first base for the second time in three days with Triple-A Las Vegas, Brown was forced to depart Sunday’s 51s game in Omaha with an oblique strain the half-inning after producing a third-inning sacrifice fly.

CHICAGO -- Juan Lagares readily acknowledges the slow start to his major league career. “I haven’t done very good, but I just come to the field every day, work hard day by day, and keep positive,” Lagares said.

CHICAGO -- Highly regarded pitching prospect Rafael Montero has been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas, apparently for a Monday spot start on his normal day to pitch. Binghamton manager Pedro Lopez told the Press & Sun-Bulletin that Montero is only expected to remain with the 51s for one start, then return to Double-A.

CHICAGO -- Pedro Feliciano set franchise records for workload by a reliever three straight seasons as a Met: 86, 88 and 92 appearances. The Mets then relied heavily on Tim Byrdak when Feliciano departed for the Yankees.

CHICAGO -- Daniel Murphy as the leading man may be more than a cameo. After Murphy produced a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth on a fastball from Kyuji Fujikawa and the Mets beat the Chicago Cubs, 4-3, in Sunday’s rubber game at Wrigley Field, Collins indicated Murphy may very well remain in the leadoff role beyond the one game.

WHAT IT MEANS: Juan Lagares belted his first major league homer -- a game-tying two-run shot in the seventh against Travis Wood -- and Daniel Murphy gave the Mets the lead an inning later with a solo homer against Kyuji Fujikawa as the Mets rallied for a 4-3 rubber-game victory against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

CHICAGO -- Terry Collins, who installed Daniel Murphy as the leadoff hitter for Sunday's series finale against the Chicago Cubs, is unsure if the assignment will continue. Daniel Murphy #28 2BNew York Mets 2013 STATS GM40 HR3 RBI18 R25 OBP.
