COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The win was important to Jeff Carter -- and not because he was booed every time he touched the puck. Mike Richards provided late insurance with his first goal of the season and Jonathan Quick stopped 18 shots to lead the Los Angeles Kings over the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 on Tuesday night.
LOS ANGELES -- It took longer than anyone would have liked, but the NHL lockout is finally over. Hockey will be back this month, and so will the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. It could be argued that no team benefited more from the players' staying firm to having a larger salary cap than the Kings, who will enter this season with their entire Stanley Cup-winning roster intact and the ability to keep that roster in place for the foreseeable future.

The summer of Stanley has already begun as the Kings took their prized possession on the road -- outside the state at least -- for the first time since winning the NHL championship on Monday night. Las Vegas was the destination as many Kings spent Thursday evening at Tao Nightclub, sharing the glory of the victory -- and the Stanley Cup -- with club-goers and fans.

The Los Angeles Kings had just clinched their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history, and general manager Dean Lombardi, in his sixth season at the helm, was rushing from the press box inside Staples Center to the arena floor, hoping to reach the ice in time for the Cup presentation by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.
